One thing that has been often mentioned in these wonderful tributes as well as in emails and calls I've received from Tim's friends, are the myriad personal notes that he sent  --  which many of us have saved and have been rereading recently.  He was unbelievable...  A note of condolence -- got one.  A note of thanks -- got a bunch.  A note of praise -- yep, got a few of those.  There was no holiday or celebration left "un-remarked-upon" by Tim -- I am sure that I even received a thank you note for a thank you note!  And each one typed out, each one personalized, each one appropriately hilarious or touching...or both.  Having visited his home office (or, as he called it "the fortress of solitude") I can envision him sitting at the typewriter, a glass of Sonoma Cutrer at hand, his Hilton Head cap tossed to the side, typing note after note to friends, family and acquaintances.  I can hear the clacking of the keys, and see the stack of envelopes headed for the post office the next day.  One of the many lessons to be learned from Tim is that making the time to send a personal note is never wasted time.  The computer is handy, easy, and quick, but the long-lasting effect of a personalized note is priceless.  I cherish the notes I got from Tim and will miss them, and him, deeply.  I'm guessing the U.S. post office will, as well...I'm already anticipating an increase in the price of stamps.
